EA Sports has released the personal information of 1600 Fifa players publicly, deeply apologizing

Electronic Arts had a rather tricky security leak yesterday, but luckily the damage is minimal.

Player entries for the FIFA 20 Global Series, a competitive season leading to the final FIFA eWorld Cup tournament, have started this week. And they didn't go very well. Specifically, when Fife players tried to sign up for the competition, they were already greeted by someone else's information on the website, including email address, date of birth, etc.

Fortunately, EA Sports were immediately notified of the leak and within half an hour they quickly or better removed the page. They ultimately solved the problem and admitted that they released the personal information of approximately 1,600 players, which is why they apologize deeply. All affected players will be contacted and advised on how to protect their accounts.

Ironically, though, Electronic Arts is having a promotion this month that encourages Origin users to protect their accounts with dual authentication, and in the end, it's those who make their users' personal data security a problem.
