Broken Sword - 20th Century Crusades
Today, exactly 23 years ago, we were introduced to the legendary couple of a very imaginative adventure series called Broken Sword.
By the second half of the nineties, most games in the point'n'click adventure genre were all humorous. The British Revolution Software team wanted to prove that this humor could also exist in a game of serious subject matter, such as a title dealing with secret societies, conspiracy theories, and the like. This idea was the origin of the Broken Sword series, but also the game of the same name, which came out today 23 years ago.
Dubbed Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, this title introduced us to an American tourist in Paris, George Stobbart, and a French journalist, Nico Collard. The two of them, through a combination of circumstances, were on the trail of a great conspiracy that led them to the mysterious Templars.
George and Nico were a very charming duo, made to appeal to both American and European audiences. Hand-drawn graphics helped with that charm, just like the animation in the style of older cartoons.
