Overwatch 2 will reportedly be free

A BlizzCon convention is taking place over the coming weekend, at which it is quite likely that Overwatch will receive the announcement of part two. But Blizzard's plans aren't supposed to be classic.

It's been rumored for some time that Blizzard will announce Overwatch 2 at the BlizzCon Convention this Friday, among others. The existence of this game has already been reported, and if the rumors are true, Overwatch 2 will have PvE content and co-op mode in addition to the PvP component. According to unofficial information provided by ESPN, the game will have a story set in Rio de Janeiro and run through missions for a four-member team.

However, more interesting is the rumor that the game will be distributed. According to unconfirmed information by someone nicknamed Metro_OW, Overwatch 2 will not be the successor to Overwatch, but will completely replace it. This would mean that the game itself will be free to all existing Overwatch players, but the rumored author claims that it will actually switch to the F2P model and will be free for everyone.

This makes some sense because Overwatch has a huge player base - over 40 million. The launch of the sequel would split that base into two groups and it would be hard to expect that the second part would once again attract so many players. Therefore, Blizzard may have opted for the strategy recently implemented by Epic Games by turning its Fortnite into Fortnite Chapter Two.

If the rumors are true, the second chapter of Overwatch will bring co-op mode, as well as a new PvP mode called Push that is designed for a new map, Toronto. It is speculated that the sequel could also introduce a new hero, and mentions an upgrade to the graphics engine. Otherwise, it would not be out of the question that all Overwatch players have to reinstall the game if this happens because something like this has already happened once the previous year.
