Sony has registered PlayStation 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 titles

Sony has registered console names in Japan that we could use over the next thirty years.

No one knows at this point how long home consoles will last. Many agree that these devices will become redundant in the future as games will be streamed over the internet, but it is also certain that we will have at least another generation of consoles. Sony recently announced that their candidate will be called PlayStation 5, which was expected as the name was registered back in 2006. If these name registrations are to be believed, PlayStation could live for another thirty years.

Specifically, a PlayStation 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 protection claim has been filed in Japan. Of course, this is no guarantee that these consoles will ever be manufactured, but it means one thing. Once the PlayStation 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 comes out, it will be a product of Sony and no one else. Unless Sony fails and sells the PlayStation brand to another company in the next thirty years.

The move was made for security, but still tickles the imagination with the question - why didn't they even register with the PlayStation 11?
