Blizzard 'tail-wagged', fined Hearthstone player back

The Blizzard president addressed a fan community today who expressed dissatisfaction over the recent punishment of players in the Hearthstone tournament.

Almost a week after causing great fanfare to their fans, they finally sent an official statement in Blizzard to punish a player who shouted "Let's release Hong Kong" in a public broadcast.

Blizzard President J. Allen Brack said that after careful consideration of the case, it was concluded that the punishment for the player nicknamed blitzchung was still exorbitant. As a result, they decided to give him back all the money he had won in tournaments this season. However, the penalty in the form of a suspension still remains, only reduced - from a year to a six-month ban on participation in Hearthstone tournaments. The same goes for commenters who will also be suspended for half a year.

Although some will not even see it as justice, President Blizzard explained why they must do so. As he says, the problem did not arise in what was said, but where and when it was said. The official transfer from the esports tournament is not a place to highlight your own worldviews - the event is game-focused and should remain so.

Blizzard's president also assures the audience that the company's ties with China have in no way influenced their decision to sanction players. He states that the same protocol would be the case that some Chinese player in a public broadcast stated something against Hong Kong.

It is interesting, however, how they explain their assessment of the blitzchung penalty. As they say, the decision to punish was hasty and they later realized that they had not taken into account an important rule: fair play or fair play. And since the blitzchung in the tournament played by the rules, they decided to give him a cash prize.

Looking forward, Blizzard does not plan to change their stance but will continue to keep tournaments and broadcasts focused on the game itself. As they say, their games should not become a platform for divisions around social or political views.
