PlayStation 4 has become the second best-selling home console in history

Sony has announced that nearly 103 million copies of the PlayStation 4 have been shipped so far, bringing the console beyond two older platforms.

It was only a matter of time before the PlayStation 4 would become the second best-selling home console in history, and it just happened. Sony has announced that 102.8 million copies of the PS4 console have been shipped so far, with the result that the current PlayStation skipped two old consoles - the original PlayStation and the Nintendo Wii.

Certainly the best-selling console in history remains the PlayStation 2 with its 155 million units sold.

This is a very important result for Sony as the company plans to say goodbye to the console soon. Almost all available power has already been channeled to the PlayStation 5, and has previously confirmed that it will provide PS4 support by 2021. It is clear that the console is more than six years old and that its profits are slowly declining, which in Sony is reducing revenue forecasts for next year, indicating that the sale of the console will also be affected by the delay in the release of The Last of Us Part II.
