The American Writers Association will not award the best video game story this year

For the first time in years, the American Writers Association will not award any video game stories.

Every year, the American Writers Association holds its WGA Awards Ceremony to award awards for the best screenplay in the video game world. So far they have so rewarded stories from games such as God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn and others, but they will stop there.

Specifically, it has been announced that WGA 2020 will not have the Best Video Game Scenario category. The reason for this is that they do not have the critical mass this year, or they do not have enough candidates to compete for a significant award. Maybe the category will come back in the future, when there are games with a good story.

Now you will think that this was a great year for video games with good stories. And you're right. But the point is that the American Writers' Prize Association only takes into account the works of writers / screenwriters who are members of that association. Most video game writers do not have membership in this association, so they do not meet the criterion of being nominated and awarded for their work.

The reason why many are not in this association is because the video game writers are treated there as lower-order authors and are not even given the right to vote.

This announcement was immediately followed by the Association of British Writers, saying that this year they will have the category of best screenplay for video games. They stressed that all members of their association have the same voting rights, and that only 50% of the screenplay is written in the UK, or by a person with British citizenship, to apply for the prize game.
