Counter-Strike: GO recorded record jump in active player count

Valve again has reason to be pleased as active player numbers rise for both Steam and their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Last weekend, a new record was set for the number of users who were logged in on the Steam platform at the same time. That record had been waiting for a year, and now it's surpassed after just one week. Yesterday, 19,107,803 users were reported on Steam, which is 300,000 more than a week ago.

That this weekend will be a success for Steam was already seen on Saturday, when one of the most popular games on the platform recorded growth in the number of active players. Multiplayer shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive thus played over 901,000 players at one time, up 50,000 from the last record set back in 2016.

We can only speculate on the reason for this activity in CS: GO, but it is worth mentioning that this result coincides with a new game update, after which players who have received multiple sign-ups are automatically silenced for using the in-game chat option. Somehow I suspect that this is the reason for the growth in activity, perhaps it is still a consequence of the coronavirus on the situation in China.
