Specifications for 8K TV standard have been defined

The 8K Association has publicly determined the parameters by which 8K TVs will be considered capable of consuming 8K content - when it is.

At the beginning of the year, leading TV makers joined a group called 8K Association or 8KA, with the intention of educating and promoting the 8K ecosystem. This week, the group publicly announced the specifications that set the standard for 8K TVs, because the standard must exist - otherwise we would be savages.

Basically, the specifications include parameters and formats for displaying the image, and the most important is the following:

  • Resolution: 7680 x 4320 pixels
  • Frame Rate: 24p, 30p and 60p fps
  • Brightness: more than 600 threads - cd / m²
  • Codec: HEVC
  • Interface: HDMI 2.1

All TVs that meet these specifications will receive the appropriate logo (hopefully not this one from the image above - this is the group logo anyway) and in this way, in the future, you will know if this TV is ready for 8K gaming or is it a Chinese scam .

Of course, the bigger question is when gaming will be ready for 8K resolution. Although both Sony and Microsoft have already mentioned support for 8K resolution on their next consoles, it should be stressed that even today 4K is not yet the standard standard in gaming, so it's unrealistic to expect to see 33 million pixels on screen in the near future, at least as video games go concerned.
