Sony's president of studies revealed that the company secured the rights to their previous games by buying Insomniac Games.
The creators of the Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and Spyro series became the 14th studio of the growing Sony Interactive Entertainment last month. With this acquisition, Sony came into possession of certain games that Insomniac Games previously worked on, and the interesting thing is that some of these games were not intended for the PlayStation platform.
Sony's studio president was therefore asked in an interview with Inside Games if it meant that the former Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive was now a series exclusive to PlayStation. Shuhei Yoshida declined to answer directly, but confirmed diplomatically that Sony now holds the rights to Insomniac Games' previous games.
Admittedly, this does not mean that Sunset Overdrive will one day arrive on the PlayStation or that it will come to life as a series at all. It is somehow more likely that Insomniac will continue to work on Spider-Man games, if Disney allows it, as Marvel's 2018 Spider-Man sold thirteen times better than Sunset Overdrive.
