The Last of Us Part II will not have multiplayer

Sony has quietly confirmed that the multiplayer component of The Last of Us will not return below. It will only be a single-player adventure.

The original The Last of Us from 2013 had more than a solid multiplayer component. Back in mid-2018, Naughty Dog mentioned that multiplayer would be present in the sequel as well. But the plans seem to have changed. Today, it has been confirmed that The Last of Us Part II will be a single-player adventure and will have no multiplayer component at all.

It did not explain why the plan was changed, but it was likely that Sony did not want the game development to be delayed too much. No matter how well multiplayer fits into this series, the fact is that Sony's exclusives like God of War, Spider-Man and Horizon: Zero Dawn have achieved fantastic sales results without multiplayer components.

Although this is information that may disappoint fans a little, the reactions of the media who have had the opportunity to play the game give rise to cheer. Gameplay, they say, has evolved greatly. As the main character, Ellie is far more agile, faster and more resourceful than Joel. The player therefore now has a key to dodge attacks, can jump (and climb buildings), and crawl on the ground.

But while Ellie is more resourceful, you can say the same for enemies. According to the testimony of the journalists, the opponents in the game cooperate on several levels, and also have useful helpers in the form of seeker dogs. Dogs bring a new dynamic because they can catch a scent if it stays in one place for too long. Therefore, The Last of Us Part II will require us to move constantly and think fast.
