A French court says Valve must allow Steam users to sell their games

In France, a verdict has been reached over a four-year case involving Steam and the (re) sale of games through that service.

The business model practiced on the Steam Thorn distribution platform is in the eye of the French UFC-Que Choisir Consumer Association. Specifically, the same association asked the court four years ago for Valve to allow Steam users to sell games in their possession - not by selling the entire games account, but by individual games that they no longer want in their collection.

Although it did not look like the French court could sidestep the small association, a ruling this week nevertheless concluded that Valve must respect the rights of the users and that the (pre) sale of games should be made possible on Steam. The verdict is valid for the entire EU market, but it is not binding, so Valve can simply get out by paying just over half a million euros, which is a trifle for them. But they still plan to appeal the ruling, so all in all - you won't be selling unnecessary games from your collection for a while.
