Steam has finally got a new look

Changes to the interface of the most used PC gaming program are not big, but they are very welcome.

Steam looks different yesterday. That is, at least one part of Steam. And that is, if you sign up for open testing of the new interface. Anyway, the big thing is that the look of the most famous PC launcher hasn't changed for a very long time and, to be honest, it was outdated. Fortunately, a new interface for the so-called. Library or Game Library brings some useful functionality.

Here's how to sign up for a new interface:

What will benefit many is the ability to create game collections. You can do this manually, by dragging games from the list to the left, or automated through the dynamic collections you get by searching through a series of filters. You can quickly access all your collections by clicking the box in the upper left corner of the Home key.

Searching for games is pretty powerful right now. This allows you to quickly access a list of games that are intended for cooperative play, games that you have never played, games that have mod support, or games that are tagged under different tags - for example, humorous games, fast games, etc. As I said earlier, you can save search results as a dynamic collection.

You can sort games in the collection by several aspects, such as by release date, by the amount of space they occupy on the disk, and by average rating on Metacritica. This way you can get to what you might want to play faster. For example, you want to play a game of a recent date that you haven't played yet, and it has good marks on Metacritic - within seconds you can now find a list of such games in Steam on your collection.

The appearance of the game pages is also new, but the changes are mostly visual. The larger the button that triggers the installation or the game itself, and the more transparent the list of news related to the game itself. On the right at the top you can also see what kind of game it is (multiplayer, single-player, etc.), whether it has controller support, Steam Workshop, etc.

It all looks nice, but much of Steam still remains unchanged. The new layout only applies to the Library, so when you click on anything else outside your games catalog, such as Workshop or Store, your interface will change. As this is still a beta, some games may not show proper covers, but this should be improved over time. More importantly, the first step was finally made because we waited longer for this refreshment than needed.
