The PlayStation 5 is likely to come with a virtual assistant
Sony has patented something called PlayStation Assist, and from the first illustrations we can figure out what this is about.
Virtual assistants or assistants are no strangers to the world of video games. Cortana has been helping Xbox users for years, and even Ubisoft has its own assistant called Sam. But many will agree that none of the virtual assistants provided specific help with the games themselves. If we get stuck in games somewhere, we are still using existing methods - looking for written passages on the Internet or watching a YouTube clip showing how someone solved a particular part of the game. Sony is aware of this, and it seems they plan to provide an option that could make PlayStation users easier to play.
The patent is protected by the name "PlayStation Assist" and, according to the description and illustrations, refers to a virtual assistant that would be integrated into the games themselves. For example, you get a quest and you don't know how to solve it. It is quite possible that in games on the PlayStation 5 you will be able to activate the PlayStation Assist application and ask for help using a voice command or query. The assistant then gives you tips on the right side of the screen - either as hints or in sentences.
PlayStation Assist could also be used as an extension, such as on mobile devices. For those who are afraid of eavesdropping, or may not be understood by an assistant, it seems that commands will also be able to be typed. Furthermore, for each game, the app might have pre-planned questions: for example, where should I go or what should I do now.
By the time the PlayStation 5 hits the market, this novelty of a gaming-focused assistant might not be an entirely unprecedented thing. Google will be launching its Stadia gaming platform again this year, where users will be able to ask Google Assistant at any time to identify which part of the game it is and will start recording the transition of the requested game part on YouTube.
