Nintendo chases pirates again, asking for two million dollars gone

After closing two well-known older game online catalogs last year, Nintendo has landed on another page.

In late 2018, Nintendo pressed owners of LoveROMS and LoveRETRO site where games for legacy Nintendo consoles were illegally distributed. This fall, they continue to prosecute similar sites, so it's the turn of the RomUniverse. Nintendo claims the site damaged them by $ 2 million.

In theory, Nintendo is probably not damaged as a good portion of the games distributed on that site can no longer be found in regular sales. However, RomUniverse is a $ 30-a-year subscription site, meaning its owners make money from selling access to someone else's games, and that part is pretty illegal.

Given Nintendo's string of legal battles won, it's no doubt that the RomUniverse will soon have to change its business or "put a key in the lock." Earlier this week, Nintendo won a legal battle demanding that UK Internet service providers block any access to sites that provide information about modifying the Switch console for the purpose of pirating games and distributing them illegally.
