Fortnite creators could go to court because they made a game that is "too addictive"

A lawsuit is being prepared in Canada against Epic Games because, look out now, they knowingly created a game that develops addiction for players.

Ah, Fortnite and lawsuits - my favorite topic. There have been bizarre cases so far, from the famous actor suing Epic Games to having his dance moves stolen to the fact that Epic Games sued a player for cheating in the game, so it turned out to be the same minor they could do nothing with. But the latest lawsuit, which is still under preparation, could be the highlight of everything.

Specifically, Canadian law firm Calex Légal is planning to file a lawsuit against Epic Games on behalf of unnamed parents, explaining that the team knowingly knew it was creating a highly addictive game. According to the law firm, in developing Fortnite, Epic Games hired psychologists to design the game so that its players would be addicted to gaming.

Plaintiffs have not been told how much financial compensation the claimants are seeking, but they hope the case will be taken into consideration because a Canadian court in 2015 had a similar case that ruled that cigarette manufacturers had not done enough to alert consumers to the dangers of smoking.

Now, the negative consequences of smoking are easier to prove than the negative consequences of playing Fortnite. Unless the parents have deliberately told the child to neglect the school and get poor grades so that they have a basis for suing the creators of Fortnite, and if they succeed, then budget for a comfortable rest of their lives.

Who knows, who knows…
