Microsoft is exploring the idea of a gaming rug that would vibrate underfoot

A rather unusual idea was discovered in Microsoft's patent for a virtual reality gaming platform.

Playing video games in virtual reality is no longer a novelty. However, in the last four years, no one has yet devised a practical solution for navigating such games. That part is still done either through teleportation or through automatic walking or is awfully awkward. But it seems like someone at Microsoft is working on a plugin that could fix this problem.

Specifically, a patent has been released these days for a floor mat that is used in conjunction with virtual reality. Basically, it's a "carpet" that would have a range of sensors and an integrated vibration. Thus, the user could use this pad to give movement commands, for example by walking in place (leg lift). On the other hand, the substrate would provide feedback to the user through different vibrations, for example, when approaching the edge of a "safe space" or simulating the surface on which he or she walks in the game itself (eg sand texture).

There will probably be nothing to come of this technology, but it is interesting to see in what direction do Microsoft executives - a company that is still with VR technology with you. Although from this perspective it seems to us that players would never accept such a thing, the VR Carpet is definitely a more practical and cheaper solution than those 360 degree walkers.
