Activision explained why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare requires a massive 175 gigabytes to install the PC version.
The official requirements for the PC version of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare shooter aren't terrible, but one item sounded like an exaggeration to many. Specifically, the game's creators said the installation of Modern Warfare would weigh 175 GB. While this did not mean that buyers of the digital version would have to download 175 gigabytes, most of the time, it goes without saying.
However, it has now been clarified that players will still not download so much data. According to Activision, the 175-gigabyte item is actually the total amount of space that is intended for the game itself, as well as for all of its accessories that follow.
So Activision reckons that the installation of Modern Warfare will "get fat" over time, but they point out that the player won't need to download 175 gigabytes immediately. Admittedly, they did not want to find out how long it would take to download the game, but they said it would be less than that.
Huge installations of Call of Duty games are otherwise not an unusual thing in the last few years. Last year's Black Ops 4 had a mandatory patch immediately after release that weighed about 50 gigabytes, allowing all customers to start installing the game the day before - even physical copies of the game came to stores the day before the official release date.
By the way, requirements for the raytracing effects of the game have been added. To play at that maximum display quality, you'll need an RTX card, of course, but a bit more working memory.
Raytracing Requirements:
- OS: Windows 10 64 Bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Ryzen R5 1600X processor
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
- RAM: 16GB RAM
