Ubisoft turns its games into animated series for young people

Rayman, Watch Dogs and Far Cry are some of Ubisoft's series that will soon receive their animated series.

If there is one word that the French company Ubisoft likes more than "iconic" then it is "cinematic". However, filming in Hollywood is not cheap, and their Assassin's Creed was not exactly a movie to remember. The company has therefore embarked on filming series, both live and animated.

So far, the Mythic Quest series: Raven's Banquet, Skull & Bones, an adaptation of Child of Light and Werewolves Within have already been announced, they've launched Rabbids Invasion on Netflix, and the Hollywood Reporter portal is just beginning.

For the foreseeable future, animated series will receive series such as Rayman, Watch Dogs and Far Cry. Admittedly, Ubisoft will apply a slightly different tactic with them. The series will not bear the names of their franchises, but will just be based on them, or more precisely on the theme and the world of those games. For example, the Far Cry series will be called Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe and will be based on the Blood Dragon expansion for Far Cry 3.

It is an interesting decision by Ubisoft to bring their adult audiences closer to younger ages. While the aforementioned Far Cry series will be aimed at teens, Watch Dogs will receive a "cybermystery" cartoon for ages nine to thirteen.

When you think about it, it's a pretty nasty capitalist tactic for raising kids through brands and franchises: they may not be old enough to buy Ubisoft 18+ games right now, but the company reckons it's going to have an audience this way in about ten years when that audience earns its money. Or cryptocurrencies if the world then rests on it.
