Electronic Arts begins testing its streaming service

Electronic Arts will soon be testing its Atlas project, which will deliver games through streaming technology.

All major players in the video game industry are gearing up for a "future in the cloud", that is, providing on-demand game streaming. Google is launching its Stadia platform this fall, Microsoft is watching it from the sidelines, and we know that Amazon has something similar in development. Electronic Arts also develops a streaming platform called Project Atlas, and in the coming weeks, select users in the US will be able to test this streaming solution as well.

Electronic Arts will only use the PC environment in the first phase of testing, but they point out that one day the plan is to stream games to cell phones and other devices. It will give players four games to test, namely: FIFA 19, Titanfall 2, Need for Speed Rivals, and Unravel. The good thing is that they have chosen games from four different genres, so they can see if streaming is functional enough for everyone. It is expected that it will be sufficient for a 2D game like Unravel, but only with Fifa and Titanfall will it be seen how things really are.

We are still far from streaming such games without any hassle without expensive gaming devices, but at Electronic Arts we are convinced that it definitely follows us. As they say, it is no longer a question of whether such a thing is possible, but of when.
