Acer unveils Planet9 platform for esports and crazy new version of ultimate gaming setup

Acer has unveiled a new version of Predator Thronos gaming setup ahead of the IFA Berlin Fair in Berlin, which is now massaging you as you play, and they have also announced Planet 9 - the "next generation" esports platform.

Berlin is currently hosting IFA, the world's largest consumer electronics fair, and we also met there at the invitation of a team from the Croatian Acer office. We were invited to their big press conference, which took place the day before the grand fair opened, where we could see all their new products. There were some impressive, ultra-thin laptops with a new generation of Intel processors, as well as slightly thicker (and more interesting) gaming laptops with powerful RTX cards under the hood.

But in addition to the impressive new laptops, we also saw an interesting C250i portable projector that you don't need a rack or carrier for. It is fully self-contained and can project anywhere in standard landscape or even portrait mode (for the first time in the projector market), and you can play with it for up to 5 hours with the built-in battery. That's long enough for two feature films or one complete transition of Blair Witch. Imagine playing the awesome Blair Witch in a real forest with an image projection on a nearby rock. We won't be able to fall asleep tonight from the very idea!

Have you heard of Acer Predator Thronos? It's their ultimate gaming setup with a chair, screen mounts (up to three screens) and keyboard and mouse holders. All tuned for ultimate comfort and gaming immersion. One cozy gamer nest from which you never want to get up. Well at that big IFA conference they introduced a new version of this setup - the Acer Predator Thronos Air. That "Air" plugin in the name does not mean that the whole setup is now ultra-thin or weighs anything, but (we assume) that it is so comfortable to sit on that you feel like you're hovering. Because now your chair is also massaging you. Of course, you control the massage functions with the remote control. Price? A whopping $ 14,000.

Check out the promotional video below and you will be clear.

One surprising announcement at the press conference was Acer's Planet9 esports platform. They call it the next-gen platform for esports gamers, and it is a kind of social network for those who are or are just about to become esports professionals. It will be a place for esports enthusiasts to gather, a place where new esports teams are formed, but also a place for education. Planet9 will delve deeply into the code of the specific games you play and retrieve user performance statistics, thus filling their Planet9 profile. What is your K / D ratio, how much gold you picked up, what items you bought and similar statistics will be listed in the Planet9 interface.

It will be so easy to find the greatest experienced players in a game and ask them for advice or private training. Or find the ideal new player for your emerging esports team. In addition, esports tournaments will be organized on Planet9, with all of these in-game user stats useful as they plan to compete with players of a similar skill in the tournaments, to make things even fairer. The idea is for this to be a full-fledged social network for esports that allows the noobs to become profiteers and the pros to find new challenges.

As far as the new Acer Predator gaming laptops are concerned, the Triton 300 and 500 models stand out for their excellent mass to performance ratio. We are used to gaming laptops not necessarily more fat, but the Triton 300 and 500 will weigh just over 2 pounds. With a 144Hz refresh screen and a properly cooled Intel i7 processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU performance, it should be great in the Triton 300, especially for such a slim and lightweight case. But the Triton 500 is even crazier with its finely machined and fully metal body only 1.7cm thick and 0.6cm thin edges around the screen. But the screen itself is the craziest thing about this model - how does the refresh rate of 300Hz sound to you?

Even their new Acer Nitro Nitro XV3 gaming monitors don't go as high with refresh rate. The new Acer Nitro XV273U S goes up to 1440p resolution at 144Hz (overclockable up to 165Hz), and has an IPS panel and G-Sync support. The Nitro XV273 X goes up to 240Hz with Full HD resolution and very fast response time (1ms VRB). Both monitors will come in 27- and 24-inch sizes.
