Over a billion games have been sold for the PlayStation 4, more than for the PS3

Sony has boasted the sale of games for the PlayStation 4 console, which has now exceeded the sales of games for the PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation 4 console became more commercially available than the PlayStation 3 console at the end of 2018. But as the PlayStation 3 games are still being sold, it was questionable when the PlayStation 4 would have more games sold than the PlayStation 3. This happened sometime during 2019, we don't know the exact date, but things are like this:

PlayStation 3: Over 999.4 million games sold (31 Jan 2019)
PlayStation 4: over 1.18 billion games sold (31 January 2020)
This has sold more games for the PlayStation 4 than for the original PlayStation, which it also outperformed by console sales. Knowing that the PS4 has around 106 million users worldwide, according to game sales data cited by Sony, this means that PlayStation 4 owners have an average of about 11 games purchased in their collection.

Of course, that's just a rough estimate, but it's worth mentioning next. Sony came up with this result with the PlayStation 4 console without major problems with illegal game copies. Piracy on the PlayStation 4 does exist, but in a significantly limited form, pirates need to do much more than they did in the earlier PlayStation consoles.
