The boss of Xbox says that Sony and Nintendo are not competitors

Microsoft's Phil Spencer believes the Xbox is in the forefront of gaming for the future, so much so that Sony and Nintendo do not consider it a competition.

The Xbox Series X console is expected to release this fall and the start of a whole new feud between Xbox and PlayStation, Microsoft and Sony. However, the chief responsible in the Xbox division, Phil Spencer, does not see this battle as a war that will last. More specifically, Spencer believes that old rivalries are ready for retirement because Microsoft has new competition in the video game industry.

In an interview with Protocol, Spencer said that the Xbox will no longer compete in the same category with Sony and Nintendo, alluding to the fact that the two companies do not have the gaming streaming infrastructure available to the Microsoft team.

"When it comes to Nintendo and Sony, we have a lot of respect for them, but in the future, we see Amazon and Google as the main competition. I'm not saying this to disparage Nintendo and Sony, but traditional gaming companies are a bit out of their reach. I suppose they could create Azure, but over the years, we've invested tens of billions of dollars in cloud computing infrastructure, "Spencer said.

The Xbox chief claims that he wants to work with Nintendo and Sony, and we've already seen the results of this in several examples. Sony has agreed with Microsoft to use the aforementioned Azure content streaming infrastructure, while Microsoft has launched some of its games on the Nintendo Switch console, such as Ori and the Blind Fortest and Super Lucky's Tale.

"I don't want to argue over the format as the Amazon and Google teams focus on how to deliver gaming to up to seven billion people worldwide. This is ultimately the goal, ”Spencer concluded.
