Fallout 76 comes on Steam, bringing in NPC characters
Bethesda has announced that their Fallout 76 will be coming to Steam, a year and a half since it appeared on their Bethesda Launcher in the PC version.
If you had asked me in 2019 how long Fallout 76 would last, I would say not long enough to make it live on Steam. But I would be wrong because Bethesda announced that Fallout's return to Steam was practically around the corner. It will happen on April 7 this year. And no, the game will not switch to a free-to-play model.
The launch of Fallout 76 on Steam will also coincide with the arrival of significant Wastelanders expansion. As previously announced, with this expansion comes NPC characters who will have opinions about you. Or rather, the player will have a reputation among certain groups, much like in previous Fallout games. The option of running a mate is also mentioned, and their help will be welcomed in the fight against some new types of mutant besties.
The Wastelanders add-on will be free to existing game owners, but on PC, these are the only ones who purchased Fallout 76 through Bethesda's Launcher. Specifically, you cannot simply transfer a game to Steam, but you only get access to it if you buy it.
