Disney is once again interested in video games after the success of Marvel's Spider-Man and Star Wars Jedi

Disney has decided to change the policy around its rental of a video game license to well-known franchises.

About nine years ago, the then Disney Interactive had a number of glitches in the video game industry. No one remembers the game of Tron: Evolution anymore, and the unlucky Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned was eventually canceled. Disney subsequently turned to the mobile gaming market, and their extensive gaming catalog remained unused on PCs and consoles. That changed with the games from the Spider-Man and Star Wars franchises, and it was these that gave Disney a roadmap for the future.

Specifically, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has decided to make a turnaround in terms of games and models by which they give others rights to make games by their franchise. So far, Disney has approved all ideas and strictly overseen the development of such games to keep them in the spirit of the franchise. But now they want game makers to come up with ideas for original stories and ways to make classic Disney characters look in a new light, for a new time.

One of the reasons why Marvel's Spider-Man and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order were good games is because they didn't follow the script of another template but had their own, original story. And given that everything belongs to Disney, there are certainly millions of ideas for how to use these franchises in the form of new video games.
