Half-Life games are about to become free to play

It seems like the Valve team is preparing to promote the Half-Life series before the release of the VR title Half-Life: Alyx, so all games in the series so far will be free to play.

Update: It's official - all Half-Life series games are free to play on Steam in the next two months. These include the original Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift expansions, Half-Life 2, and the two episodes that followed that game.

Original News: Some Steam users have been notified that Half-Life Collection will be free to play until the release of Half-Life: Alyx VR in the third month. There are no official announcements yet, and there is not even a Half-Life Collection on Steam, instead there is a Half-Life Complete Bundle, which may be one and the same thing.

In any case, it doesn't sound incredible to us that Valve would temporarily make all of Half-Life's games free of charge. First of all, it is a useful promotion for the new Half-Life: Alyx, especially considering the fact that the Half-Life series has not been current for the last 13 years.

Secondly, this would not be a big loss for Valve either, as Half-Life games on almost every Steam action are sold at ridiculously low prices from one to two euros, with tens of millions of Steam users in their collections.

It may seem that true information about the F2P period is for the Half-Life series, but we still have to wait for official confirmation.
