Nintendo will not launch a new Switch console model in 2020

Nintendo reportedly has no plans to go into direct conflict with Sony and Microsoft, and has no plans to launch a new console in the next 12 months.

In 2020, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles are coming out, but there will be no direct competitor from Nintendo. The news is that we found out in a Nintendo investor address stating that there would be no hardware news in the next 12 months.

Instead of a new console, the company will put all its focus on highlighting all the virtues of the Nintendo Switch Lite console. Since its launch in the ninth month, it has sold in just over 5 million units, which is not a negligible figure, especially considering the weaker version of the console, which has been present on the market for almost three years.

Looking into the past, Nintendo's decision is not really surprising. In past generations, the company has largely kept aside and instead of hunting for more powerful hardware, focused on a slightly different gaming experience and pushing its mega-popular franchises. Of course, there are still rumors of a more powerful Switch Pro model, and Nintendo, as in the case of the Lite and the better battery model, is no stranger to announcing one and then doing the opposite.
