Production of the Lord of the Rings series has stopped
Currently, the most expensive production in the world of the TV series has been suspended due to the threat of coronavirus and will result in the delay of the premiere of the LOTR series.
Amazon, which funds the development of the series in the Lord of the Rings world, has announced that from today the development of that series is being put on hold. "We are doing this to minimize the impact on resources and infrastructure by reducing population density in communities and daily activities in order to help prevent the spread of the virus." - reads the official statement.
The Lord of the Rings series, which is otherwise filmed in New Zealand, is currently one of the largest projects in the world, with more than 800 people working on it. There are currently eight confirmed cases of COVID-19 virus infection in New Zealand.
Delaying the series' shoot will certainly have an effect on the premiere end date. Fortunately for Amazon, that date was never mentioned before, it was only known that it would not be this year but only sometime during 2021.
