Counter Strike: Global Offensive played a million players at once

Almost eight years after its release, Valve's shooter continues to break records, aided by the coronavirus pandemic.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive is one of Valve's most respected and popular titles. The Counter Strike franchise has been in the video game world for less than 20 years, and the sequel to Global Offensive has made its biggest competitive FPS game. Just a year and a half ago, the game was "taken over" by a global player offensive when they decided to move CS: GO to a free title from Valve.

This weekend, Counter Strike: Global Offensive played to over 1 million players, 1,001,756 to be exact. This made the shooter only the third game on Steam to cross this magical figure. Prior to it, only PUBG and DOTA had succeeded. No doubt, this figure was certainly contributed by the coronavirus pandemic, which left many people in their own homes.

Just over a month ago, Global Offensive played to over 900,000 people. Two weeks later, the old record was broken and a new one went into effect. This weekend only confirmed that more and more people are playing CS: GO. Who knows, it may soon be able to break PUBG's record of 3 million users who simultaneously played the aforementioned battle royale.
