Riot wants to tell Valorant a story through play

We have witnessed numerous games that want to spice up their own gameplay with narrative content. Some succeed, others fail. How successful will Valorant be (in) this?

Valorant is a new free shooter that we will all be able to play in the summer. It comes from the creators of League of Legends - Riot Games and has nothing to do with their biggest title. Many believe, from the gameplay shown, that the game is a combination of Counter Strike and Overwatch.

Like Overwatch, Valorant will have characters with their own characteristics. All of them will form one big story that will be told through the game itself. Depending on the direction in which the story will move, this will reportedly prompt Valorant to change. Riot claims that they want to bring players closer to the characters that will be in the game.

Valorant Creative Director David Nottingham explained that certain parts of the story will not be told within the gameplay, but will have a great impact on it when it comes to reality. "We want to go at a pace that won't throw too much information at the start. We will not immediately expand the game world. We want to experiment little by little, ”he said.

Valorant's world will thus evolve through narrative content. One such example, Nottingham states, would be changing posters and similar aesthetics on objects within the game. In his opinion, great work is being done by the Epic Games people who changed Fortnite without touching the foundations of their Battle Royale title.
