The new Xbox will actually only be called the Xbox, not the Xbox Series X

Microsoft tried to explain what the actual next-generation Xbox console is called. And somehow they managed to complicate matters further.

Let's be real, Xbox Series X is a crappy name for a console. On the side of the joke that we will call it Xbox SeX, the name is not sufficiently different from previous generations of Xbox, and behind that name there is no simple logic that a simple layman can conclude that the Series X is the successor of the Xbox One console or a completely separate console. It would be just as silly for the fourth generation of the Xbox to be called the Xbox 2, but even the code name of the Xbox Scarlett would be clearer.

But beware now - because you misunderstood that name, the same with us: the next generation of Xboxes isn't called Xbox Series X. It's just called Xbox. The Xbox Series X is the name of the most powerful model chosen to leave room for additional consoles in the future, just as we now have the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. But while this console is an Xbox One, this one is not the Xbox Series, only the Xbox . Series X, Y, W, whatever - that part is a supplement to the base name.

Of course, it makes sense to say that the game is coming to the Xbox, not the Xbox One. There is a distinction here. But if we're talking about the Xbox console, how do we know if we're talking about the first generation of the Xbox or the fourth? Maybe it would be best to introduce a ban on talking about the original Xbox?

Microsoft has come to terms with this term much like Apple did with the iPad that used to be the iPad, then the iPad 2 and then the iPad again before the Air, Mini and Pro versions came out. However, this has been accepted on iPads, as it is known that almost every year a new one comes out. For consoles, things are different and we expect to use one console for up to six years.
