Instagram will notify users that the title of their post may be considered offensive

The new feature is part of a larger Instagram initiative to combat online bullying and is aided by artificial intelligence

Following the introduction of a similar feature earlier in the year for comments left on posts, now Instagram will begin assessing the captions of images and videos that users post and reporting if they find them to be offensive.

The system works by means of a specially developed machine learning algorithm, which automatically checks the post titles, so that if the post being published by the user is recognized as offensive, the user will be notified.

The notification will inform the user that that type of title has been reported by other users in other situations, so the user may choose to change it. If it does not want to change it, the post can be published in the original way.

According to Instagram, this way users will get a better idea of what is not allowed on their network and that could put their account at risk, or risk being blocked or even deleted.

It is always strange when such rules are introduced on social networks, and especially when the system takes into account what other users have reported. It is well known that many users report something not because it is offensive, but because they do not like it or the person who published it does not like it, so many, though not all, can freely say they are fake.

This feature is released in a limited number of countries, after which it will be released to all users in the months ahead.
