Apple is reportedly working on developing its own satellites to connect iPhones and other devices

These satellites could enable Apple devices to be independent of mobile operators and also provide a better map experience from the company

Apple is a company known for wanting to be in control of their ecosystem, that is, for users to make the most of their products if they use not just one product, but more, in combination with their services.

Something that could give Apple devices extra independence is the development of a separate network through which these devices can communicate, no matter what the connection to the Internet, as well as mobile operators.

According to Bloomberg sources, who remain anonymous, Apple is working on developing such a network. It would be made up of its own satellites, currently unknown in numbers, that would allow communication across all Apple devices regardless of the Internet.

Such a connection of devices, according to information, would enable communication and sending of information without the need of the mobile operators, and also states that Apple will be able to more precisely monitor the location of the devices and improve the user experience on their maps.

The project is led by two former employees of Skybox Imaging Company which was acquired by Google in 2014. Their project work has been noted and approved by Tim Cook, and results are expected in the next 5 years.

Given the long period of development left, it can be expected that this project will never be officially launched. This can especially be taken as an option when considering how complex and expensive it is to develop, produce, and launch in orbit satellites.

There is also the possibility of Apple using satellites manufactured and maintained by another company, but that would be resolved if the project reached such a stage that it needed to think about it.
