Impressions of The Witcher

New Game of Thrones? Not so fast ...

We didn't know what to expect from The Witcher. We haven't read the books, nor have we played the game. We've seen clips of the game, so we knew there would be monsters and sword fights, and the long-haired, recognizable face. The series was announced as the next Game of Thrones, but whenever a series or movie is announced as the next thing, we're wary. So now.

Not that these two series have anything in common. The Witcher's first three episodes (so it seemed) are full of nudity, extremely bloody violence and power struggles. Something that made GоТ recognizable in the first few seasons (despite repeatedly breaking the hearts of fans by killing their favorite characters).

The story revolves around three characters: Gerilla of Rivière (Henry Cavill), a bounty hunter who travels and earns a living by killing giant spiders and other monsters; she is facing severe tragedies in her family.

Focusing on these three characters, the series often shifts from location to location, also like the GоТ. Sure, their stories will be intertwined in later episodes, but for now it's a bit chaotic to follow this network of creators. Now you will be introduced to the world of Herald (which is by far the most interesting character), the series shifts you to Syria, which we do not care about because it has not been so well-developed in the first few episodes. Jennifer is a pretty interesting character I suspect will have a "Darth Vader" transformation. Actress is also great and you really care about her and you have empathy for what she's going through.

When it comes to acting, Kavil has downloaded Geralt from the video games, from what we can see. The voice, the look, and its dark and sarcastic character create an authentic character that you want to see in as many scenes. In addition, the fight scenes are phenomenal.

The music is great, the acting too. The series looks beautiful, the story is engaging and interesting. The only thing that worries us at the moment is the development of the stories of characters not named Herald and how the story will eventually merge into a whole. The first three episodes were pretty slow in this respect, and there are only five more episodes to go. However, we have the foresight that the creators will reach a satisfactory conclusion to the first season. It seems to us that the series is in the confident hands of knowing what they are doing.

The trailer wasn't promising too much, but The Witcher didn't surprise us with more looks. If you're a fan of fantasy, you're probably on your radar. If you think "it's not for me", give it a chance, you might be surprised.
