The new Microsoft Edge will be installed to users via Windows Update automatically

Installation will begin January 15 next year when the first final version of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium becomes available

Announcing the new logo for Microsoft Edge from the company announced that the final version of the browser, which is currently in beta, will be officially available from January 15, 2020.

From this date, the new version of Microsoft Edge, based on Chromium, will become the official version available to Windows 10 users, replacing the current one with the operating system.

Replacement of both versions will be done as expected, ie through Windows Update automatically. This means that starting January 15th, the current version of Microsoft Edge will be automatically upgraded to a completely new version based on Chromium code.

This will be Edge's latest automatic upgrade through Windows Update, and all will be done automatically through the browser itself, as is the case with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and others.

This means that Microsoft Edge will now receive more regular updates, more precisely every 6 weeks, as the Chromium code updates, and security updates will be released as needed, immediately.

Microsoft explains that the settings, shortcuts in the Start menu, the desktop, and the taskbar, will be replaced with the new version, and the old one will no longer be enabled and will not be displayed.

If companies, and even some home users, for some reason don't want their new Edge version installed, they can "prevent" it through a tool made available by Microsoft, that is, with the Blocker Toolkit.

Microsoft explains in detail all the changes that will occur at the operating system level with the installation of the new version, so if you are interested you can read about them.
