Google has purchased its first game development studio

Today, Stadia Games and Entertainment is richer for a new studio, one that has not launched any games so far.

Google currently has one studio internally developing games for their Stadia platform. By comparison, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have dozens of development studios under their wing. Google is also looking for a business model, and the first step towards this is to buy the Typhoon Studios team.

Who are you now, you wonder?

This is a team led by Alex Hutchinson, game director of Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 4. They haven't launched a single title so far, but that will change in early 2020 when their Journey to the Savage Planet space adventure comes out. Google has said that the team's plans do not change after this acquisition and that the game will continue to be launched on various platforms, including the Stage.

Google's Jade Raymond, who used to be with Hutchinson in Ubisoft, played a big role in the negotiations over the takeover of Typhoon Studios. It is not known for what amount they "sold", but given that it is a young studio that has not yet proven its expertise, it is probably a real trifle for Google.
