Among the 20 best-selling games on Steam in 2019, only four are 2019 games

Valve has released a list of the best-selling games on Steam in 2019, and it contains a few surprises.

It's been a weird year for Steam, still the strongest PC gaming platform. Strange because the number of games is still growing, but on the other hand, there are more and more games that have not appeared on Steam when and at the Epic Games Store. Nevertheless, the old trends on Steam continue and among the most successful games are older titles, multiplayer titles and free-to-play titles such as Destiny 2, Warframe, Dota 2 and the like.

Among the 12 best-selling games in 2019, only two are from 2019 - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Total War: Three Kingdoms. The top twenty bestsellers are still joined by Devil May Cry V and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Not a big surprise, but there are a few:

  • Slovenian Mordhau has earned more than Red Dead Redemption 2 (but in a much larger time span)
  • Planet Zoo sold better than Mortal Kombat XI
  • Remnant: From the Ashes was more successful than Rage 2
  • TES: Online sold more than TES V: Skyrim
  • Metro Exodus was among the best-selling new games in the 2nd month despite the one-year exclusivity for the Epic Games Store then announced
  • one of the 100 best-selling games is Cyberpunk 2077 - which hasn't come out yet

Valve has released some more lists of the most successful Steam games in 2019, so if you're interested in which VR games were the best-selling or which games played the most players at one time, check the lists
