If you want to upgrade your Xbox Series consoles with a 1TB card, you’ll pay for it almost like a new console.
The rumors were true - a miniature SSD in the form of a card that will expand the space for installing games on Xbox Series S and X consoles will be an extremely expensive addition. In the US, the Best Buy retail chain has started accepting orders for the aforementioned one-terabyte card at a price of US $ 219.99. That’s close to half the price of the Xbox Series X console, and the best comparison is that the Xbox Series S console is only $ 80 more expensive than this card.
For now, Microsoft and Seagate, the company that makes these SSD cards, have only announced a 1TB model. More models of different capacities will probably appear in time, but it is certain that buying such cards will be the only way to expand the capacity of Xbox consoles for installing games. Namely, even Xbox Series consoles will not be able to run new games from portable USB drives, but only old Xbox One titles.
The price of these cards could be a thorn in the side of customers of the cheaper Xbox Series S console that comes with a 512GB drive. If the user wants to upgrade that console with a 1TB card, they will end up paying more for it than the more powerful Xbox Series X model. In that case, it’s not even insane to think that two Xbox Series S consoles are a more cost-effective purchase than one Series S with an optional SSD card.
