The first two PlayStation 5 exclusives will take up 20% of the total disk space

The size of the installations for the first PlayStation 5 games is known and the situation is not very promising for now, considering the disk capacity.

If you install Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Edition and Demon’s Souls processing on the PlayStation 5, you’ve already used up 20% of the capacity of the SSD, or drive, needed to play games. Add to that the fact that one of the declared 825 GB will be reserved for the console's operating system, which means that in that situation one third of the disk space is already filled.

Specifically, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will weigh about 50 gigabytes, or 105 gigabytes with a remaster of the first Marvel’s Spider-Man. Technically these are two games, but 105 GB is no stranger to the notion of a single installation as several PS4 games have already weighed that much. Demon’s Souls will weigh a minimum of 66 gigabytes, which means that the installation could be increased through updates.

Until further notice, the PlayStation 5 will not be sold with a disc with a capacity of more than 825 GB, and an additional pressure is that PS5 games will not be able to play from a portable disc. So, until Sony announces a model with a higher capacity drive, the upgrade will only be possible by purchasing the appropriate PCI 4.0 PC drives - but not any, and we are still waiting for Sony to finalize the list of those that will be supported for the PlayStation 5 console. It also remains unclear how these disks will be installed in the console. It is likely that there will be opening of the console, ie we have not seen an external slot for it as with the Xbox Series X / S console, and the question is how this will affect the warranty.

Of course, some users won't mind if they can only have 6-7 games installed on the disk at a time, but Sony has promised that due to the speed of loading data from the disk, game installations could be reduced because there would be no need to duplicate material on the disk. But judging by the examples of the first games, that promise has not yet materialized. Namely, the original Marvel’s Spider-Man GOTY was 55 GB. And his remaster weighs just as much. If the installation is reduced, it is "compensated" by the advancement of the graphics, ie by raising the texture resolution.
