Minecraft gets a VR version, free to all PS4 game owners

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, Microsoft’s Minecraft will enable VR mode on a competing PlayStation VR platform.

Minecraft has had its own VR releases for some time, both official and unofficial. But that applies to the PC (Oculus Rift) and the mobile version (Gear VR) so the players on the PlayStation were left short-sleeved. However, that will change as early as this month as Minecraft on PlayStation 4 gets support for PlayStation VR. And even better news is that the VR mode will be free to all Minecraft owners on the PS4 so they won’t have to buy any separate PS VR version of the game to experience it in virtual reality.

It also means that Minecraft in VR will have all the content as the standard version of Minecraft, and players in VR mode will be able to play with players playing standard Minecraft on TV. There will be two virtual reality play modes: Immersive as full VR, and Living Room mode for those who have nausea from full VR, so this will allow them to play as if they were in front of a large screen in the living room. In both cases, it will be played with the DualShock 4 controller because there will be no support for Move controllers.
