Today is "Video Game Day"

On this day, video games and video game activities are celebrated. You don’t need to guess twice which way.

Today’s chapter of the gaming calendar is a bit atypical because we don’t remember any game or gaming platform. Instead, we celebrate Video Game Day! I have to admit that at first I didn’t know such a thing existed, but the thing is, celebrating that day is a tradition that originated in the US. There it is called “National Video Games Day” and is the closest we have to celebrating video games, as there is no International Video Games Day. For now.

The event itself dates from 1991, when it was held on July 8. Since 1994, it has been moved to July 12, and then a year later to September 10, and since 1997 it has been marked on today's date, September 12. video games were first mentioned in the American publication Chase’s Calendar of Events. Admittedly, nowhere is it mentioned who first decided that the existence of video games would be celebrated at all.

According to the first official description, this day is for children of all ages (!) Who enjoy video games ”. The description also mentions the sponsorship of David Earle, president of Kid Vid Warriors, but the mystery is, even in the age of the internet, who that guy is anyway.

However, the rules for marking video game days are clear in themselves. Video games are best celebrated by playing. Of the other activities, you can go back to some old games from your youth, you can join a gaming community or watch a movie about video games. We bring you one of such documentaries in this article.
