Football Manager 2020 is being promoted as a non-existent game

Football Manager 2020 has been given an interactive trailer that portrays the game in an interesting light - which it really isn't.

Since last year, Sports Interactive and SEGA have been practicing the very visual promotion of the Football Manager series. This includes forks and other types of video material that capture in a pretty exciting way what's really going on in the game. In particular, various animations of training with football players, interacting with journalists and talking to the club management were shown here. All this is present in the game - just not in such an animated and dynamic form.

The trailer for FM's latest release goes even a step further as it is interactive, so you can experience the career of a manager through binary decisions that lead you to the next video in the sequence. It's an interesting approach, but also a bit alarming because it offers a picture of the game that looks significantly different in reality. I'm not saying Football Manager should have animated conversations with club leaders and the like, but it looks like Sports Interactive is putting more effort into designing an interface for a non-existent game from the trailer than for the actual interface within the actual game.

Moreover, at one point Football Manager is displayed on the mobile. Wouldn't it be nice if some segments of Football Manager could be run via a mobile companion app? It would, but something like that to Sports Interactive is probably not in the pipeline for the near future.
