Sony has appointed a new president to oversee the work of its studios

After Shawn Layden, Shuhei Yoshida stepped down as Sony's head of worldwide development studies.

A month ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment lost its studio chairman, Shawn Layden. Now another Sony member, Shuhei Yoshida, has stepped down as president. He will be succeeded by Hermen Hulst, until recently president and co-founder of Guerrilla Games.

Unlike Layden who left Sony, Shuhei Yoshida will remain at Sony, but will oversee smaller projects and hire independent game creators to partner with Sony and possibly even indie developer acquisitions.

Guerrilla Games thus remains without its key member, dark during the development of the sequel Horizon: Zero Dawn. However, it is certain that Hermen Hulst will make a significant contribution to the work of all Sony studios around the world, including the studios he helped to found. Guerrilla Games will no longer have one president, but the studio will be jointly run by Angie Smets, Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw.

Interestingly, with this move, the two most important roles at Sony Interactive Entertainment have for the first time belonged to Europeans. Specifically, CEE President Jim Ryan was born in the UK while Hermen Hulst is Dutch. So far, Sony and Japan employees have been mostly in their positions, and this is a testament to how important the European market has become to the PlayStation brand.
