Codemasters will be doing F1 games for at least another six years

The British company Codemasters has renewed its license for Formula One racing, meaning the games will run for at least another six years.

Whatever the future of video games brings us, virtual racing in Formula 1 will be part of that future. Specifically, Codemasters has extended its existing rights to use the F1 Competition license. Under the existing treaty, they had the rights until 2021 and have now extended them to 2025.

It doesn't necessarily mean he'll make six more games (or maybe more), but unless the contract is terminated early, F1 games won't work for anyone other than the Codemasters. Also, under the contract, they are entitled to an additional license extension until 2027, which they could opt for because their F1 games are quite lucrative.

One thing is for sure - Formula 1 games will be played on even more platforms in the future. Codemasters has already given open support to the Google Stadia streaming service, and in a statement announcing the license renewal, they said they are looking forward to the arrival of new consoles.
