If you thought Ubisoft could no longer complicate the story of the Assassin’s Creed series, they have now decided that there will be two versions of the same canon.
All Assassin’s Creed series games to date have had male and female characters in lead or at least important roles at the same time. The upcoming game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will break that tradition because there will be a male and female version of the same character, Eivor, but of course - not at the same time. The player must choose one or the other, with the proviso that the gender of the character can change whenever he wants. But that's not all.
If you don’t want to choose one or the other, you’ll be able to let the game choose for you. In that case, part of the game will be played with the male version of Eivor, and part with the female, and the game will randomly choose when to play with whom. Even in this game mode the player will be free to change the gender of the character whenever he wants.
What will not change is the fact that the female and male versions of Eivor will be canon at the same time… although these characters do not exist separately at the same time. Maybe a little confusing for the complete story of the series itself, but hey - who else follows it other than Ubisoft?
