Borderlands 3 will receive a free next-gen upgrade as soon as new consoles appear

Gearbox Software has announced that all Borderlands 3 owners will be able to upgrade their copy of the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox One consoles right on the first day of sales of those consoles.

Borderlands 3 will be one of those games that can be upgraded for free to PS5 and XS versions if you have it on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles. We already knew this, and it has now been announced that these upgrades will be available as soon as the new consoles appear, meaning Nov. 10 in the Xbox Series S and X, and Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 in the PlayStation 5 , depending on the markets. In our country, it is November 19th.

Borderlands 3 will run at PS5 and XSX at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution. They probably don't mean native 4K resolution but upscaling with 1440p, but still - and that's impressive because for comparison the new RTX 3080 graphics card in 4K resolution spins this game at 69 fps, and costs more than the consoles themselves without counting the rest configurations.

Borderlands 3 was previously an inferior version on the PC in the context that it did not offer the option of split-screen multiplayer as on consoles, and now that gap will deepen further. Namely, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the split-screen option will be expanded - from two players to as many as four players who will be able to play the game on one screen at the same time.

Gearbox Software says that the transition to new consoles for existing players will be free. Namely, all recorded positions will be saved, and when upgrading to the next-gen versions, all additional content purchased by players in the PS4 and XBO versions will still be valid.
