The Halo collection will be played on the Xbox using a mouse and keyboard

343 Industries has announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will get cross-play support, as well as keyboard and mouse game control on Xbox consoles.

Strange things are happening with the Halo series. It was recently announced that Halo Infinite will have a free multiplayer component, and now 343 Industries promises that older Halo games on Xbox consoles will be able to be played with a mouse and keyboard.

Mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One consoles is nothing new - it has been available since 2018, but on a very small number of games, among which only Warframe stands out. Adding that support to the Halo series would be Microsoft’s first move of its kind.

This will also pave the way for merging multiplayer between PC versions and console versions. Cross-play in the Halo collection will work according to the control method, which means that only those who use the same control scheme will play against PC players who use a mouse and keyboard on consoles.

This support has been announced for 2020, which means that it could very easily be realized on the Xbox Series X console as well. It doesn’t seem to us that Halo Infinite will have the same freedom in controls upon release, but it’s clearly not ruled out that this Microsoft hit could one day be played on the console without a gamepad.
