Sony has increased production capacity for the PlayStation 5, yet expect more interest

Sony is rumored to have ordered the production of an additional three million copies of the PlayStation 5 console for its launch.

Earlier this year, Sony announced that it would produce about six million copies of the console for the launch of the new PlayStation 5 platform. That’s a slightly smaller number than was the case in 2013 with the PlayStation 4, so discussions have begun as to whether Sony expects a smaller number of customers due to the high cost of the console itself or simply predict a difficult economic situation by the end of the year.

However, business portal Nikkei now reports that Sony has ordered the production of an additional three million copies of the PS5 console, meaning a total of 9 million units. Reportedly, Sony was pleasantly surprised by the audience's interest in the new console. During the presentation of the console and controller, several records were set on Twitter and Instagram, and the console was generally well received among PlayStation brand fans.

Admittedly, a good part of the console’s mention was also the humorous meme content that mocks the look of the PlayStation 5, but you know the saying - sometimes every exposure is a useful exposure. In any case, according to some polls, the PS5 is a slightly more anticipated console than the Xbox Series X, probably due to the fact that Sony’s exclusives will no longer be able to play on the PS4 console, unlike those of Microsoft.

Sony is not the only company that has increased production capacity for gaming devices. Facebook did the same with its Oculus VR products, which are now leaders in the VR domain after Sony announced no future support for PlayStation VR.
