Spider-Man will no longer be part of the Marvel movie universe because money is a damn thing
Sony and Disney had an argument over the Spider-Man franchise, which resulted in the ejection of spider-man from the Marvel movie universe.
Up until yesterday, it seemed perfect for Spider-Man. The latest movie became Sony Pictures' most lucrative movie, and the final scene of that movie set the stage for an exciting sequel. However, Disney and Sony Pictures have failed to agree on co-operation in the future, resulting in the split and the ejection of Spider-Man from the Marvel movie universe, and therefore some future Avengers, if any.
According to unofficial reports, Disney has proposed new contract details to invest more in new Spider-Man movies (half-half with Sony), but would also earn a higher percentage of earnings. Sony reportedly did not agree, but suggested that the collaboration continue under the existing contract.
Today, Sony Pictures came out with an official statement stating that they were disappointed with the outcome, but that it was ultimately Disney's decision, not theirs. They did not mention any finances, but stated that one of the reasons for the split was that Marvel producer Kevin Feige probably has too much work to focus on intellectual property that Disney does not own.
But what exactly does the divorce of Disney and Sony Pictures mean for Spider-Man? Things are not catastrophic because Spider-Man is likely to continue where he left off at Far From Home. It is mentioned that Sony has at least two more Spider-Man films in the pipeline, and it is likely that actor Tom Holland will star in both of these films as he reportedly signed a new deal before yesterday's events.
But in future Spider-Man films, we will certainly no longer see characters from other Marvel universe franchises. There is a good chance that the reverse is also true - Spider-Man will no longer be seen in Marvel films unless the two companies find some kind of compromise solution.
